Ten individuals were arrested in different police districts in National Capital Region (NCR) on the first day of implementation of the gun ban for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Based on the report of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Public Information Office, at least 55 checkpoints were set up on August 28 in various parts of Metro Manila, where they are partnering with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

Two were initially caught with guns in checkpoint operations, while eight were arrested in other police operations and police responses.

Authorities confiscated 17 deadly weapons, a short firearm, and a machete at the checkpoints, while four other weapons were seized during police operations.

According to the report of the Southern Police District (SPD), Felizardo Almarez, 25, and Jameson Argabio, 32, were among those arrested.

The police stopped them around 12:50 a.m. on Tuesday along Naga Road, Brgy. Pulang-Lupa 2, Las Piñas City while riding a motorcycle and not wearing a helmet.

Instead of following the police, the two suspects sped away in an attempt to escape until they were cornered. A.38 caliber revolver, switch blade, bolt cutter, and surgical scissor were confiscated from them.

Aside from the violation of the Omnibus Election Code, they are also facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and deadly weapons.
