Ten households in Barangay Candalubang, Arayat, Pampanga were ordered to evacuate after a landslide affected a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) project in the area.
The project involved a 30-meter segment of slope protection along the banks of the Pampanga River.
According to a report by RH Grace Sansano, the issue began on Saturday morning when residents heard a loud explosion underground. Project Engineer Emil Jan Quinto stated that DPWH personnel immediately conducted an ocular inspection.
By the afternoon, the ground beneath the affected homes had collapsed.
An initial investigation by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 3 (MGB-DENR) and DPWH revealed that seepage in the slope protection project led to the landslide.
