"The Baseball Player" was named the Best Film in the awarding ceremony of the 2022 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival on Sunday.
The film, directed by Carlo Obispo, tells the story of a 17-year-old Moro child soldier who tries to pursue his dream despite an all-out war in his hometown.
Aside from the top award, the movie also notched the awards for the Best Screenplay, Best Editing, and the Best Actor for the performance of its main lead, Tommy Alejandrino.
Meanwhile, Ma-an L. Asuncion Dagñalan's "Blue Room" took home five trophies, including the Special Jury Award, Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design.
Asuncion Dagñalan also won Best Director and Soliman Cruz won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film.
Max Eigenmann won Best Actress for her performance as Alice in the film "12 Weeks" while Ruby Ruiz won Best Supporting Actress for "Ginhawa."
The jury for the Cinemalaya 2022 were Jeffrey Jetturian, Piolo Pascual, Maria Madonna Tarrayo, Makiko Wakai, and Frederic Auburtin.
