Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel is open to loosening some of the norms that members in the upper chamber obey but improvements in the conduct of proceedings should be noted.
For Pimentel, improvements needed are paying more attention to the proceedings and encouraging his colleagues to have a better presence during plenary discussions.
He mentioned that during plenary debates for the Maharlika Investment Fund bill, he observed that there were few who showed support for the proposed measure, while very few were present during the discussion.
Pimentel, on the other hand, has stated that he supports relaxing the senators' necessary clothing.
He saw that government personnel are now dressed casually, even in the Spanish parliament.
Former Senate President Franklin Drilon asked current Senate Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on June 15 to "draw the line" amid the "erosion of the Senate's prestige as an institution" owing to a "lack of decorum" among some of its members.
Senator Robin Padilla recently received backlash on social media when a video surfaced showing the newbie politician failing to make a motion during a plenary session.
He was also chastised after being found in another hearing combing his mustache.
Meanwhile, Senator Ronald dela Rosa was accused of undermining the Senate as an institution by kneeling and pleading with drug-related cops, to tell the truth during a committee hearing.
While Dela Rosa stated that he is willing to make changes, Padilla stated that he does not see the necessity to do so, adding that younger senators have a different approach.
