Mount Pico de Loro has opened after 6 years of rehabilitation but seeing its results did not sit well with netizens, which drew backlash on social media.
Under the Facebook post of a media outlet, the public left negative comments on a picture of the mountain with a short cemented stairway to the peak as part of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) rehabilitation program.
Netizens exclaimed that the so-called rehabilitation "destroyed" the mountain and its natural beauty.
The mountain at Cavite was closed in October 2016 due to voluminous solid wastes, uncontrolled vendors, campsite, summit unregulated hikers, and overall degradation.
The DENR earlier said that the concrete stairs were built on the eroded portions of the mountain to prevent soil erosion and mountain degradation.
Hikers are also required to book online with a fee of P200 per head. Visitors are only limited to ages 17 years old and above. No pets are allowed.
