Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz has yet to decide whether she will represent the Philippines in the 2024 Olympics that will happen in Paris, France.
"Pinagiisipan ko pa. Siyempre additional three years of sacrifices din iyon sa training and medyo mahirap kasi yung preparation," Diaz said on Tuesday, August 10, during the virtual forum of the Philippine Sportswriters Association.
"Titignan ko pa din kung saan yung kaya saan kaya ng katawan ko, saan din kaya ng coaches na magsakripisyo," she added.
The 30-year old Filipina athlete made history after she ruled the women's 55 kilogram weightlifting of the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and won the first gold medal of the Philippines in the quadrennial multi-sports event.
Diaz, currently, prepares to compete in the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships in Lima, Peru; in the 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand; in the 2021 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China; and in the next Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
She said that she will go to compete in the 2024 Olympics based on her assesment on her performance in her upcoming tournament, and if she can still make the necessary sacrifices.
