After going viral on social media for 'Pay with Sibuyas' promo, customers flocked to the discount store, Japan Home Wholesale Centre in the Panay Ave branch on Saturday, Feb 4, to buy goods using onions.

In a Facebook post, the store shared pictures of shoppers who brought their own onions and availed of products.

"PAY WITH SIBUYAS: Happening now at Japan Home Centre - Panay Avenue!" they wrote.

The promo allowed people to buy a maximum of 3 items using any size and color of onions.

The store initiated the one-day promo to collect onions for their community pantry amidst the crisis in the agricultural product whose price recently soared by P600 per kilo.

Meanwhile, as a solution, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has allowed importation of over 21.060 metric tons (MT) of yellow and red onions.
