The viral birthday bash of Senator Sonny Angara, which was attended by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., and some senators, was actually a "party with a cause."
According to Angara's Communications Director Dennis Legaspi, the event was done in celebration of the senator's 50th birthday, with the attendees encouraged to donate to his chosen charity instead of bringing gifts.
"In lieu of gifts po kasi, we exhorted the guests to instead donate to the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation, Inc. Yearly po tuwing birthday ni sen (Angara), nagdo-donate talaga sya dyan," Legaspi said.
In a Facebook post on Sunday night, Angara said his birthday event was able to raise PHP 3 million for the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Foundation.
“Best part of the night is that we raised over P3 million for the PGHFoundation — our chosen beneficiary in lieu of gifts,” Angara said in an Instagram post late Sunday night.
“God bless all of you for giving generously, madami po kayong matutulungang mahihirap na pasyente (You will be of help to a lot of poor patients),” he added.
A video of President Marcos singing the song “You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin'” along with senators, including Angara, went viral on social media over the weekend.
It drew flak from netizens arguing that while government officials were partying, the public is suffering from the high inflation and flooding in parts of Metro Manila due to the continuous rain.
Other senators seen in the video were Senate President Migz Zubiri, JV Ejercito, Mark Villar, Bong Revilla, Jinggoy Estrada, Bato Dela Rosa, Win Gatchalian, and Bong Go.
