“Parasite” star Lee Sun-kyun died on Wednesday, December 27, while facing an investigation over drug use allegations at the age of 48, according to the reports.
The Seoul Seongbuk Police Station’s initial report said that the actor’s body was found inside a parked vehicle in Waryong Park, located in South Korea’s capital, at around 10:30 a.m. with charcoal briquettes in the passenger seat.
According to the authorities, Lee Sun-kyun left his home after writing the suspected suicide note, and an official told news outlet The Korea Times that he was pronounced dead and was not taken to the hospital.
In October, the 48-year-old actor was under police investigation over alleged drug use “multiple times” this year alongside seven more people, mainly in entertainment establishments.
On December 23, the police conducted the actor’s last questioning and sought a lie detector test three days prior to his death.
Due to his drug scandal, the Agence France-Presse reported that Lee Sun-kyun’s commercial and television projects were canceled.
Apart from gaining global recognition with his character as Park Dong-ik in the film “Parasite,” Lee Sun Kyun also appeared in some Korean dramas, such as “My Mister,” “Coffee Prince,” “Pasta,” and “Miss Korea.”
