Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Austin Reaves emerged as a crowd favorite in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Reaves, who currently plays for Team USA in the tournament, has been greeted with cheers and applause from the crowd whenever he enters the court during his games at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The 25-year old American basketball player has also been productive in the previous two games of Team USA against Dominican Republic and Greece.

Reaves contributed 12 points in the 99-72 victory of Team US against New Zealand last Saturday, August 26, and he contributed 15 points to lead his squad to a 109-81 win against Greece on Monday, August 28.

Among those felt surprised by the popularity of Reaves among basketball fans in the Philippines is the player himself.

"Being here, experiencing all that it is kind of, not unrealistic, but it still hasn't set in yet," Reaves told reporters following the victory of Team USA against Greece on Monday.

Reaves also said that he appreciates the support shown to him by the crowd in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

"Everytime you check-in the game, doing anything, the crowd appreciates what I bring to the table. It means a lot to me," the NBA player said.
