The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported on Thursday that 'Tropical Depression Amang' has caused extensive damage to the agriculture sector, with losses totaling over ₱12 million.&nbsp;
The DA-Regional Field Office (RFO) V conducted an initial assessment of the damage and reported that rice, high-value crops, and livestock were affected, impacting 1,324 farmers across 1,096.6 hectares of agricultural areas in Camarines Sur and Sorsogon.&nbsp;
The volume of production loss amounted to 663.9 metric tons (MT), although these figures are subject to validation.&nbsp;
The DA is closely monitoring the effects of TD &ldquo;AMANG&rdquo; and is coordinating with other government agencies and local government units to provide assistance for affected farmers and fishers.&nbsp;
The department has also listed available assistance for distribution to affected farmers and fishers including:
<ul>
<li>Rice, corn, and assorted vegetable seeds;</li>
<li>Drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry;</li>
<li>Fingerlings and assistance to affected fisherfolk from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR);</li>
<li>Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program from the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) with a loanable amount of up to PhP 25,000 payable in three years at zero interest; and</li>
<li>Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas.</li>
</ul>
Although Amang weakened into a low-pressure area and is expected to dissipate by Friday, the DA remains vigilant in assessing the extent of the damage and losses in the agri-fisheries sector.
