The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported on Thursday that 'Tropical Depression Amang' has caused extensive damage to the agriculture sector, with losses totaling over ₱12 million.

The DA-Regional Field Office (RFO) V conducted an initial assessment of the damage and reported that rice, high-value crops, and livestock were affected, impacting 1,324 farmers across 1,096.6 hectares of agricultural areas in Camarines Sur and Sorsogon.

The volume of production loss amounted to 663.9 metric tons (MT), although these figures are subject to validation.

The DA is closely monitoring the effects of TD “AMANG” and is coordinating with other government agencies and local government units to provide assistance for affected farmers and fishers.

The department has also listed available assistance for distribution to affected farmers and fishers including:

  • Rice, corn, and assorted vegetable seeds;
  • Drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry;
  • Fingerlings and assistance to affected fisherfolk from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR);
  • Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program from the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) with a loanable amount of up to PhP 25,000 payable in three years at zero interest; and
  • Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas.

Although Amang weakened into a low-pressure area and is expected to dissipate by Friday, the DA remains vigilant in assessing the extent of the damage and losses in the agri-fisheries sector.
