The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday morning downgraded Agaton into a Tropical Depression as it weakened while over San Pablo Bay.

Its center was last detected over the coastal waters of Tanauan, Leyte, and is moving north-northwestward slowly, according to PAGASA.

Agaton's maximum sustained winds weakened to 55 kilometers per hour near the center, while its gustiness declined to 75 kilometers per hour.

According to PAGASA, it weakened due to the frictional effects of land on its circulation. It previously made landfall over Calicoan Island in Eastern Samar at 7:30 A.M. on Sunday.
