Public schools in Manila have been directed to conduct half-day classes from April 11 to May 28 following the “dangerous” heat index level, the Division of City Schools-Manila said on Tuesday.
In a memorandum signed by DCS Manila Chief Education Supervisor Nerissa Lomeda, the half-day classes were the agency’s attempt to mitigate the ill effects of El Niño.
“In view of the onset of summer season where a dangerous level of heat index is expected, all public schools in the Division shall conduct classes only from 6 am to 12 n.n. from April 11 to May 28, 2024,” the memorandum read.
Schools in the city have been encouraged to revise their respective class schedule to adhere to the memorandum’s time allotment stated in the Department of Education Order No.21, s. 2019.
During this period, the Chief Education Supervisor noted that teachers should report to schools, regardless of the implemented modality of classes.
