President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has appointed Bienvenido Rubio as the new Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner.
His appointment was announced by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Friday.
Rubio will be replacing Yogi Filemon Ruiz, who was tapped as acting Customs chief in July 2022.
The BOC welcomed the appointment of its new Commissioner.
In a statement, Rubio said he would prioritize the following during his term: hit and surpass the revenue target; simplify and secure the facilitation of trade; curb smuggling of any form; and uplift the morale of the men and women of the BOC
He also vowed to adhere to the priority programs set by the President for the Bureau.
Among the priority programs are the review and revision of the customs processes by digitalization and adapt to a data-driven culture to ensure that data gathered are utilized in every decision-making.
Rubio has been with the BOC since 2001. He first started as the Bureau's Special Agent 1.
Rubio's last position was director for BOC's Port Operations Service under the Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group.
