The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured Filipinos of their commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful observation of the Holy Week, or Semana Santa 2024.
The statement was made following an interagency conference held on March 22 at the PNP National Headquarters Main Conference in Camp Crame.
According to the PNP, the conference tackled a comprehensive plan, outlining the deployment of a total of 52,000 personnel from different police regional offices, including personnel and canines from the EOD/K9 Unit, across various areas of the country, particularly churches, terminals, tourist spots, and other convergence areas.
Compared to the previous year, the PNP said the deployment plan represents a significant increase as more travelers are expected to return to their provinces.
"This collective effort is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to foster the spirit of Bagong Pilipinas through inter-agency coordination and cooperation, as outlined in the Memorandum Circular by the DILG. This memorandum aims to ensure a safe and peaceful observance of Semana Santa, aligning with the vision of a Bagong Pilipinas,” Chief PNP Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. said in a statement.
PNP's comprehensive plan was attended by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Department of Tourism (DOT), and the Department of Health (DOH), as well as our partners in uniformed services such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and other key agencies like the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Meanwhile, the DOTr provided their hotline number, 1326, for immediate assistance and reporting of any incidents.
