Meralco warns customers against text messages containing link
by Mary Antalan28 February 2024

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is warning its customers to beware of circulating text messages that contain an external link.

In an advisory on Wednesday, February 28, Meralco said some of its customers received the message using the company's official SMS channel.

The power utility firm said it has not sent a message telling customers that their bank accounts were connected to its external site.

"We are receiving reports that some of our customers received a message with an external link from our official SMS channel. Do not click the link. This is not from Meralco," the advisory read.

Meralco advises those who received the SMS not to click the link and block the sender instead.

The power utility firm said it is investigating the circulating message.

In a message sent to DZRH News, Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said that the extent or quantity of the reported fake message is still being investigated, and assured that it was immediately contained.
