Jay, also known as Kim Jin Hwan, from the K-pop boy group iKON is set to commence his mandatory military service on July 20, making him the first member of the popular boy band to do so.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Friday, the singer shared the news directly with his fans, expressing his gratitude and informing them about his upcoming enlistment.

"I wrote this because I think I have to talk to you before anyone else. I joined the army on July 20th," the K-pop idol announced.

As the eldest member of iKON, he acknowledged the anticipation surrounding his departure and assured fans that he will fulfill his military duties with sincerity, eagerly anticipating his return.

"It's a pity that there are many things I have prepared and there are so many things I haven't shown you yet," Jay wrote.

"I don't have to say long words because I know my fans will be more sorry than me who waited for me. I will serve diligently and return soon," he added.

In South Korea, it is mandatory for all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 35 to serve approximately one and a half years in the military.

Prior to his enlistment, Jay released the first part of his debut solo album, titled "Paradise" on June 21, with the second part, "Blue Moon" scheduled for release later in July.

iKON made their debut in 2015 as a seven-member group, including their former leader, B.I., who is currently pursuing a solo career under IOK Entertainment.

In December of last year, the group announced their departure from YG Entertainment after a seven-year stint.

Subsequently, the six remaining members signed with 143 Entertainment, a newly established agency founded by composer and music producer DM.

iKON's most recent visit to Manila was on September 23 for the Kpop Masterz 2 concert held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
