Incumbent vice mayor Honey Lacuna has made history as the first female mayor of the Philippines' capital Manila following her proclamation on Wednesday, May 11.
Lacuna was declared the winner by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) with 534, 565 votes, a wide gap from rival Alex Lopez’s 165, 551.
She becomes the first female Mayor of the City of Manila in 450 years.
Her running mate, Manila 3rd District Rep. John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto also won with 582, 941 votes and will serve as the city’s new vice mayor.
Lacuna will be succeeding mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, who vied for the presidency but later on, conceded to presumptive president Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
Lacuna served as two terms as vice mayor, first in 2016 and in 2019 alongside Domagoso.
