The "Auspicious Beginnings 88" is an art exhibit that features the artworks of 15 Chinese-Filipino (Chinoy) artists to prove that Chinoys are merged into the Filipino community, yet they have managed to maintain their identity, coinciding with the Chinese New Year celebration.

The two-week celebration of the beginning of the lunar calendar year, which differs from the solar calendar, expresses the good fortune, tranquility, stability, and prosperity that the new year, the Year of the Water Rabbit is thought to bring.

The group of Chinoy artists, who are various individuals who have a common love for art, yet their artistic manifestations are equally as diverse, was brought together by visual artist Addie Cukingnan. Charlie Co, Dexter Sy, Ed Uygongco, Elena Coyiuto, Jo Uygongco, Kylo Yu, Margarita Lim, Meneline Wong, Ronnie Lim, Rudy Yu, Seb Chua, Tracie Anglo Dizon, Victor Ng, and Winna Go are among the other musicians featured in the album besides Cukingnan.

They present the audience with a wide range of topics and aesthetics that current Chinoy artists, as opposed to their traditional counterparts, concentrate on.

While contemporary painters feel free to employ any of the modern art media, styles, and canvases, traditional artists tend to concentrate more on the traditional Chinese visual art media of ink and paper.
