PBA Commissioner announces verdict on Cuneta rumble

PBA Commissioner Chito Salud announced his verdict on Friday in connection to the fracas that saw San Mig Coffee star Marc Pingris and Globalport rookie Kelly Nabong throwing punches at each other during their game at the Cuneta Astrodome on Tuesday.

Salud slapped both Pingris and Nabong two-game suspensions and P60,000 fine.

San Mig’s Joe DeVance, who pushed Globalport’s Marvin Hayes will serve a one-game suspension with P30,000 fine while Hayes was slapped with P20,000 fine.

According to Salud, fighting has no room in the PBA because the games are being watched by the youth, not only in the Philippines but overseas.

The free-for-all started in the third quarter when San Mig Coffee import Marcus Blakely pulled down Hayes as both players went down to the floor and shoved each other.

Devance then pushed Hayes that prompted Nabong to push DeVance. After Nabong pushed DeVance, Pingris threw a punch that started the scuffle. (Chris Capulso)
