Pingris, Nabong face stiff penalty after melee

It could’ve been a Ultimate Fighting Championship match, but the difference is those fighting were wearing basketball uniforms.

San Mig Coffee’s Marc Pingris and Global Port’s Kelly Nabong are both facing stiff penalties after engaging in a fracas that marred the game between the two teams, which the Coffee Mixers won, 102-88, last night at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Tempers flared in the third quarter when San Mig import Marcus Blakely pulled Global Port import Mavin Hayes as they both went down. It appeared in the video that Hayes kicked Blakely in the face, which prompted Joe DeVance to push Hayes.

Nabong then pushed DeVance as Pingris stormed at Nabong and punch him twice as Nabong retaliated with a knee.

The melee lasted for a few seconds before both players were pacified.

Meanwhile, San Mig Coffee head coach Tim Cone said that if the referees were calling fouls before the incident, the fight could’ve not happened. (Rommel Fuertes)
